The Sun Shines on the Good and the Bad

Tonight we were reading from 3 Nephi chapter 12 in the Book of Mormon. In the last verses of the chapter, Jesus charges the Nephites to love each other, including their enemies, that they may be the children of God (verse 45). Then, reminding both the Nephites and the reader of their relationship to the rest of humanity, Jesus says, "for [your Father in heaven] maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good." His statement that we are all God's children reinforces his earlier instruction to avoid contention and anger.

While I was driving to work this morning, I tried to be more considerate in my driving. As I pulled up to the light just before merging onto I-215 I left extra space in front of me for others to merge in from the side street. Again on the way home I made an effort to not be in such a rush that I esteemed my situation above others'. I had the thought, "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy." It's interesting that we read that passage in our study tonight.

Forbes Interview

I had an interview today with a reporter from Forbes magazine. The reporter asked questions about my experience and background prior to attending Neumont as well as asking questions about how difficult I thought the program was. I'm so glad that I finished in under two years. Originally I was supposed to be attending until the middle of August but the adminstration changed 10 quarter residency policy.

We found out today that we'll be closing on our house on Thursday, May 25th. This is the day before my graduation ceremonies. Our realtor in Austin, Tim, is so helpful. He'll be there for our walk through and for our closing since we'll be in Utah. It's sad that we'll have owned the house for a month before being able move in. Another sad thing is that I'll move to Texas alone for two weeks while Jeana stays in Idaho with family. Then, I'll fly back to Salt Lake City for our family reunion in the middle of July. We decided to have Jeana just stay here because the cost of three plane tickets is outrageous. Hopefully we'll be able to use some SkyMiles for my ticket and save more money.

Nick and Ashley are moving into their new home in Eagle Mountain tonight. Nick told me today that most of their goods will be moved by the time he gets home from work. Nick's parents just moved to Salt Lake from Mississippi last week and are living with Nick and Ashley temporarily.

Getting Started

So, everyone has a blog these days. This is my formal announcement that I am a newbie to blogging. The main reason I want to even do this is to keep a journal. I don't take the time to write in my journal by hand anymore and when I do write in it, I just complain about my hand hurting because I hardly ever use a pen anymore.

Also, Bryan emailed me the other day about setting up a web site. Now he's working on a cool web site to show off the cool things he and Danielle are doing. For so long my web site has been focused on looking professional and I'm ready for it to be a little more personal. Jeana's parents just stopped in tonight on their way home from their mission. We're excited to have them here for the week. I can't believe that 18 months has already gone by since they left. The last two years have mostly been a blur due to being spread thin with work and school.

We're moving forward with getting our house. Jeana and I are so happy about a "Carter" coming back onto the market in Austin, Texas. We got pictures from our agent, Tim, in Austin last Saturday. The sheet rock has been hung, the cabinets are in, and the brick looks great. Click here for more pictures.

Oh, I just remembered. Nine years ago today I went to the Idaho Falls, Idaho temple.
